Run by Mrs Belinda Flanagan of the University of the Sunshine Coast this workshop is designed to address care of the baby and mother during and after both physiological and complicated birth in a community based emergency health setting. It will be heavily practical based for students to gain maximum exposure! Students can expect to walk away with a:

·         understanding of maternal and neonatal risk in relation to birth

·         ability to manage some common complications of physiological and preterm birth

·         recognition of when a birth is normal, and practical measures to improve care of mother and baby around the time of physiological birth

·         recognition of signs of dystocia and principles of management

management of neonatal care of both pre and term infants
